LTL or FTL what's it mean?
One of the first things to know about freight
is it less than a truck load (LTL) or a full truck load (FTL)?
If its less than a truck load you freight load is shared with other freight in
one truck. If its an FTL than you will be assigned you own truck.
Parcel Service or Common Carrier?
If your freight or load ways over 150 pound in most cases it is cheaper to use a common carrier for shipping. Further more if your load wieght is in excess of 7800 pounds you probably need your own truck, for this is a FTL (full truck load).
Determing Your Freight Costs?
Depending on the class of your freight and size is what determines the costs. There are 18 different freight classes. 50 is the least expensive and class 500 is the most expensive freight class.Your product NMFC # identifies the freight class. Contact Any freight carrier to look this information up for you. or call the NMFTA direct at: 703-838-1810.
When a carrier arrives to pick up your shipment makes sure its ready. Most drivers will not wait and reschedule your pick up. Also make sure there is ample amenities for a large truck for loading lf a loading dock is not available. There bill of lading is the document used for your shipment.
